Do cameras like the Nikon R8 handle these modern stocks’ ISO/ASA okay today?

@AnalogResurgence Next run-through, consider trying out pre-exposure to cope with the high-contrast Instax medium i.e. de-focus, set exposure to ~4 steps under-exposure for a uniform field you've metered for, aim the camera at that field, filling the frame, and pre-expose... then take a 'regular' picture on that same print. Blue sky is one possible pre-exposure field. A grey card would also do the trick. The idea is to go about it consistently and systematically.

As a fellow Canadian, do you know of any Canadian labs that process ECN-2 film?

FWIW. Past experiences have taught me that Kodachome is very stable when frozen. I have a large freezer full of frozen Kodachrome and will keep it they're as long as I have breath, mental faculties and money. I remain hopeful. Kodachrome was WAY better than anything else, and if it were available today, that would become obvious, when compared to digital. A photo is so much more than pixels, spectroscopic sensitivity and dynamic range. If anyone's seen very well exposed, projected Kodachrome, it takes you to another world.

I have found olympus trip af 51 and an old zenith in my parents drawer few days ago, my mom got me a film and said i can use the Olympus if i want. As a kid raised by two foto people i kind of grew up looking through lenses so this was an exelent offer. I have 32 photos left so i hope i can document some good memmories

I recently got a few rolls of kodachrome in a job lot and I didn’t know anything about the history of it and shot it thinking it would be in colour. When I took it to my local lab, the fellas there explained it to me and how it was impossible to dev in colour but that they could experiment in black and white. I said screw it and went for that and the photos came out amazingly, despite me not shooting with black and white in mind

why not use normal batteries?

I know I'm late but excellent video, Noah. I have 2 Eyemos that I picked up years ago. They're both 1926,1927 71As. I'm lucky to have the cases and grip handles with the leather wrist straps. They are both in very nice condition. They shoot in 12,16, 24 fps. You've inspired me to spool some 35mm reels and try them out however, I think I'll film in the 35mm silent speed of 16fps. Thanks for all of your hard work you put into this channel it's one of my favorites of UA-cam.

Wow, Noah, I am impressed with this video (accurate history, professionally presented), your Eyemo footage (you use a tripod...bless you!), and you as a person (infectious enthusiasm). As a 66 year old motion picture tech and audio/video engineer , I appreciate a young person like you getting excited about this old "outdated" stuff. The sound of these old cameras and projectors have always made me happy, and I can relate to your idea of using it as white noise to sleep to (I'm glad to find there's at least one other weird person in this world!). I have an Eyemo, DeVry, Auricons, Filmos, and a lot of other stuff that I need to use more. Keep up the great work, and be an inspiration to all of your peers! Subsribed!

I cut my teeth on Tri-X 400, and I’ve experimented with T-Max 100 over the years, but I shot a roll of T-Max 400 through my new CLE recently, and I’m really satisfied with the results! It looks like it hits just about perfectly with the dynamic range of my Z6II that I’m “scanning” it with. I also scanned in a roll of Agfa retro 400s and it was flatter, but had its own interesting characteristics. I think I need a “pro pack” of T-Max 400 😸

yes, i had about a dozen of those bellows polaroids, and threw them all in the trash decades ago and have zero regrets.

I wonder if this would work on a Polaroid back for a 120 camera. If you own a camera where people aren't making instax backs like a Bronica.

A bit steep price considering how cumbersome the camera becomes.

Great video. I had a Polaroid 195 previously, excellent, that I used for lighting checks before digital. I'm surprised that there have not been more film back conversions for the manual and automatic versions of these great vintage Polaroid cameras (the auto version shutter easily converted to standard AAA batteries)

I've tested my Polaroid 95 and 110a with Instax Wide. Fits PERFECTLY on the pressure plate! Mini and sometimes Square film can fit into 120 cameras. Tested a couple antique kodak with the Instax film taped to a suspended dummy roll. After watching your video, I'm gonna test my Polaroid 195

Every time I hear pack film I get so sad. The fact Fuji rather destroy the machines than sell them to Polaroid/Impossible just seems so vindictive to me still

I just rolled out the EXO IW(the one for instax wide), and updated the design to apply to all 34 professional and automatic versions(that all look pretty much the same), and I made the exo simpler and easier to install, as well as fully capable of supporting those accessories you mentioned!

Off topic....can you recommend any great film camera repair places? I'm specifically looking for have a Rollei 35S repaired and I am striking out all around trying to find a repair place in the US. I've been putting out my quest for a repair place on photo forums and it seems I'm get recommendations for places that are now closed/out of business/retired.

The original Polaroid roll film #110-series cameras that have full manual controls is what I turned into a user of Polaroid 100 series peel-apart film packs. Going "Instax" is the next step, but that requires an Instax back/camera. Instax Wide looks better on the "Polastax" cameras.

How do you “blimp” the camera if and when a crystal is installed?

It doesn't really do anything for me.

I saw a video showing to NOT zoom with the Wolverine and do the crop later in post editing. This makes a huge difference. The video with the digital zoom of the converter is riddled with compression artifacts. The video with no zoom is virtually artifact free.
